curl -fsSL https://kendex.ai/install.sh | sh## TL;DR
Cross-tool manager for AI coding-agent customizations — one app and CLI (the project now brands itself kendex) that installs skills, agents, hooks, and pi extensions once and lands them in the right place for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, pi, Gemini CLI, and GitHub Copilot.
## Key points
- $Desktop app and CLI over one engine: install a skill, agent, or hook once and it lands in the right place for every tool; write an agent or skill as one file and each tool's own format is generated from it, with every change previewed before it happens and undoable after.
- $Seven harnesses supported — Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor (project-only), pi, Gemini CLI, and GitHub Copilot. For pi it manages agents, skills, hooks, and pi extensions (copied and registered npm packages); commands are shown read-only, while MCP servers and plugins have no pi surface to manage.
- $Four verbs, always in order: scan (read-only inventory), declare what you want in one kendex.toml, diff wanted against actual (the Sync page), and apply with a preview, transactionally — a lock file records what was installed, from where, and a content fingerprint.
- $Ownership rules: a value you set is never overwritten and one you deleted is never put back; a file kendex did not create is reported to you, never deleted; deleting anything kendex generated is safe — the next apply rebuilds it from kendex.toml.
- $Community marketplace at kendex.ai: subscribe to any git repository of skills and install from it, publish your own packages, or install a shared collection from one link; the out-of-date view shows what needs updating across every tool and fixes it in one step.
- $CLI surface covers add/remove/adopt/apply/refresh, verify (drift check that exits non-zero), list/check, source and project registries, marketplace commands, scopes (--scope project|global|all), and update/update-pi; the repository itself serves as the default catalog.
## FAQ
Q The repo is called vstack — why does everything say kendex?
The project at github.com/vanillagreencom/vstack now brands itself kendex: the README, CLI, install command, and community site (kendex.ai) all use the kendex name, and macOS/Linux packages install under it.
Q Do pi hooks managed here actually run?
kendex manages pi hooks at both scopes like any other surface, but the pi-hooks extension is what makes pi execute them — without it registered, they are only instructions pi can ignore.
Q How do I install it?
curl -fsSL https://kendex.ai/install.sh | sh installs the app and CLI together. On macOS use brew install vanillagreencom/kendex/kendex for the app (or the kendex-cli tap for the CLI alone), on Arch yay -S kendex-bin, and on Windows download the installer from kendex.ai/download.
