## TL;DR
Native desktop app for the pi coding agent (Tauri 2, Windows 11 and macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel) — streaming chat with tool visibility, sessions and workspaces, model switching, built-in Git, a workspace dock, and pi package management in one visual workspace.
## Key points
- $Streaming conversations: watch the agent think, call tools, and stream results in real time, with one-click abort and automatic session recovery; sessions are browsable, searchable, and reopenable across projects with history restored exactly where you left off.
- $Models and providers switch from the UI — provider, model, and thinking level, with usage visibility per conversation — and extensions render their own interactive panels inside the app, next to an integrated workspace terminal.
- $Git built in: review changes, stage or unstage individual hunks, and browse branch history without leaving the app; the Workspace Dock adds the project file tree, file references in prompts, embedded browser tabs, and terminals beside the chat.
- $Packages: browse the pi.dev catalog, then install and manage user-scope Extensions, Skills, Prompts, and Themes; ships PiDeck, Vercel, and Apple themes, customizable shortcuts and context menus, and English plus Simplified Chinese UI.
- $Bundles the pi SDK and its own Node runtime (the Windows build bundles Git as well), so it runs standalone — no global pi executable or Node installation required; it shares ~/.pi/agent authentication, model settings, and user-scope packages with the pi CLI, plus each workspace's .pi directory.
- $Security posture: loads only user-scope packages from ~/.pi/agent, never runs <workspace>/.pi/extensions when opening a workspace, and self-updates in place; downloads are early-access development candidates — Windows builds without an accepted Authenticode signature, macOS builds possibly ad-hoc signed.
## FAQ
Q Where do I get it?
Grab the installer from the GitHub releases page: PiDeck_<version>_x64-setup.exe for Windows 11 x64, PiDeck_<version>_aarch64.dmg for macOS Apple Silicon, or PiDeck_<version>_x64.dmg for macOS Intel. Building from source needs Node >=22.19.0, pnpm 9.15.0, Rust stable, and the Tauri 2 prerequisites.
Q Can I use it alongside the pi CLI?
Yes — both share ~/.pi/agent (auth, model settings, user-scope packages) and each workspace's .pi directory (sessions and history). PiDeck does not load project-local packages from <workspace>/.pi; keep the CLI version close to PiDeck's pinned SDK version, and avoid editing the same session from both apps at once.
