pi merges four PRs after v1.1.0: npm 12 pack output, pi.dev configuration schemas, herdr kitty images, and compaction-status color overrides

Four pull requests went into pi between October 8 and October 11, 2026 — one on the 8th, three on the 11th — and none of them is in a release yet: the most recent tag is still v1.1.0 from October 7. Two are bug fixes, one wires pi’s configuration schemas to pi.dev, and one rounds out theme support in the input bar.

#10680 addresses npm 12 compatibility in artifact creation. npm 12 changed npm pack --json from a one-element array to an object keyed by package name, and pi’s artifact creation accepted only the array shape — so package install checks, publish dry runs, local releases, and package packing all failed under npm 12. The fix reads either result shape and then requires the matching package name and a tarball filename before proceeding.

#10751 makes the pi.dev schema endpoints the canonical $id values for pi’s generated configuration schemas, uses the published theme schema in built-in themes and examples, and documents the models, settings, keybindings, and theme schema URLs — so tooling outside pi can pin the same schema addresses pi itself generates against.

#10774 restores inline images in herdr, a regression v1.1.0 introduced: #10573 made pi return images: null for herdr, but before that change herdr panes had been falling through to the ghostty check and getting kitty images, which herdr renders fine — so 1.1.0 broke them. herdr supports the kitty graphics protocol, and the fix keeps the herdr check first while turning kitty images back on. The PR comes from herdr’s own maintainer.

#10810 fixes #10809 for themes that do not set borderColor: the embedded compaction status indicator did not support overriding colorFn or using the reasoning level as the color. The PR adds that support, passes the indicator the same override the WorkingIndicator uses, and renames isWorkingStatusEditor to isEmbeddedStatus to match what the check actually tests.

All four sit on main as of this roundup; each links from the merged-pulls search in the source line.
