Self-hosted AI workspace that packages the pi coding agent behind a trilingual streaming web UI: chat, editor, terminal, viewers, and automation in one container, with SQLite-backed persistent state and an add-on ecosystem.
## Key points
- $One stateful workspace: chat with steering and queued follow-ups, a CodeMirror 6 editor, a bundled xterm.js web terminal, CSV/PDF/image/video viewers, uploads, and VNC panes — mobile-friendly, streaming over SSE.
- $Persistent state in SQLite — messages, media, tasks, token usage, an encrypted keychain, and session-scoped SSH profiles; /workspace/.piclaw/store/messages.db is the documented source of truth.
- $Built-in tools include code editing, browser automation (cdp_browser), image processing, and MCP; agent workflows cover side prompts, scheduled tasks, and visual artifact generation.
- $Provider login happens inside the app (/login) — including custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints and local llama.cpp router presets; credentials reuse pi's own storage, so no API keys in environment variables.
- $Optional extras: passkey/TOTP auth for the web UI, WhatsApp integration, and an add-on registry (Ghostty terminal, Draw.io, Office rendering, Windows automation, Proxmox, Portainer).
## FAQ
Q Which volumes must persist?
/config holds pi state and git config (provider logins live under ./home/.pi/agent/auth.json on the host); /workspace holds projects and the SQLite store. Keep --init enabled for signal forwarding and zombie reaping.
Q Is it multi-user?
No — PiClaw is a single-user workspace; protect it with the optional passkey/TOTP auth when exposing it beyond localhost.
