pi extension that anchors DeepSeek V4 Pro and V4 Flash to the official DeepSeek Harness minimal surface — a one-line system prompt plus persistent bash and str_replace_editor — for the first request of a session, then restores pi's normal tools.
## Key points
- $Bootstrap phase (request #1 of a session, or the first request after compaction): the system prompt is exactly You are a helpful software engineer assistant. with only the official persistent bash and str_replace_editor tools — no AGENTS.md, no skill catalog. The provider payload is rewritten so the model sees the official two-tool schema.
- $Promotion after the first durable assistant message or tool call (promoteOn: either): the official persona stays as the first sentence while the same request restores pi's tools, tools-guide, docs paths, project context, available skills, and other extensions' prompt additions. After compaction it falls back to bootstrap until a new promotion signal.
- $Triggers automatically when the model name or id contains deepseek-v4-pro or deepseek-v4-flash (both since v0.3.1); other models are untouched unless useOnAllModels is on, and /dsh unmatch <pattern> opts a model out.
- $Measured by the author on the full 113-task DeepSWE v1.1 run (2026-08-16): V4 Flash with this extension solved 69/113 (61.1%, median 24 min per task) against the official Flash leaderboard's 53% — an author-reported, single-sample result.
- $/dsh opens a settings screen (enable, use-on-all-models, promote-on, model patterns, statusline) with commands like /dsh on|off and /dsh promote; the config file is ~/.pi/agent/pi-dsh-minimal.json.
- $Performs no network requests and adds no telemetry; while anchored, leaked DeepSeek DSML tool-call markup in assistant text is converted to pi-native tool calls when the names are in pi's active-tool catalog, and str_replace_editor requires absolute paths.
## FAQ
Q How do I verify it is active?
Enable the extension, select DeepSeek V4 Pro, and ask for a small edit: the first thinking block should open with We need… or I need… rather than Let me…, the first request should expose only bash and str_replace_editor with the official one-line prompt, and later requests should see pi's original tools again. PI_DSH_MINIMAL_DUMP=/tmp/dsh-minimal-request.json writes the rewritten surface for inspection.
Q What happened to the v0.2.x Flash routing profile?
It was removed in v0.3.0 — a controlled DeepSWE A/B measured no lift (4/11 on vs 5/10 off), and upstream's own related-chain data showed near-field guidance was negative, so v0.3.1 enabled the anchored-standard bootstrap for Flash instead.
