install
pi install npm:@agentskit/doc-bridge## TL;DR
Framework that turns repo docs, ownership maps, and human documentation sites into deterministic AgentHandoff contracts — where to start reading, which packages may be edited, which checks prove the change — usable from the ak-docs CLI, MCP, CI, and a pi-installable skill.
## Key points
- $The handoff is a routing contract with startHere, editRoots, checks, and humanDoc fields; that same contract works from the terminal, MCP, CI, and optional RAG/chat.
- $The core works without any LLM or API key — it is explicitly not a wiki or hosted RAG; the optional chat layer is a surface over the deterministic index.
- $Ships an ak-docs CLI (query, search, ask, doctor, gate), a read-only MCP server (handoff.resolve and other tools), and a bundled GitHub Action that fails stale indexes and broken human-doc links on PRs; doc adapters cover fumadocs, docusaurus, vitepress, starlight, nextra, and plain markdown, with monorepo routing for pnpm-monorepo and nx.
- $Works both directions: ak-docs memory ingest, classify, and promote --pr read .agent-memory/** and .cursor/rules/*.mdc, classify what should become project docs, and open a human-reviewed draft PR via gh.
- $Pi users install the portable skills/doc-bridge-handoff skill with pi install npm:@agentskit/doc-bridge; it prefers the read-only MCP tool, falls back to a pinned zero-credential CLI resolver, and never edits files, runs returned checks, or grants authority outside editRoots.
- $A 60-second demo needs no config: npm i -D @agentskit/doc-bridge, then npx ak-docs demo --text (or npx ak-docs demo --fixture monorepo --text).
## FAQ
Q How does a pi agent use it?
pi install npm:@agentskit/doc-bridge registers the source-owned skill in the open Agent Skills layout; it resolves the fail-closed handoff contract (startHere, editRoots, checks) before editing and never edits files or runs the returned checks itself.
Q Does it send my project anywhere?
The local MCP server reads only the project selected through doc-bridge.config.json — it requires no API key, collects no telemetry, writes no project files through its eight MCP tools, and sends no project data to AgentsKit.
